WELCOME,

As a true cosmopolitan I spent most of my life living, studying and working in various countries in Europe and the Middle East. I have been able to complement my academic research into socio-politics and resilience in the Middle East with an extensive engagement with regional policymakers, community leaders and academics. Whether in Damascus, Tel Aviv or Doha, I have used my time in the region to develop extensive networks and my language skills.

Currently, I am back in the UK working for King’s College London at the UK Defence Academy & the Royal College of Defence Studies providing professional education for senior strategic leaders across government from Britain and overseas. Prior to that I worked for King's College London and Serco Middle East as a contractor of the Qatari Armed Forces providing my expertise to security sector reform in Qatar - an effort under the framework of the UK MoD’s Defence Co-operation Agreement (DCA) with the State of Qatar. Among other things we set up a Joint Command and Staff College for Qatar's and other regional armed forces.

I frequently write commentaries and provide insights and analyses on contemporary affairs in the Middle East and North Africa to a variety of media outlets, in print, online, radio and television. My commentaries and my expert insights have been printed mostly in English media but have also been translated into other languages. I have been invited onto shows on the BBC, France24 and Al Jazeera among others. In the print media my expert comments and opinions have been published across the world inter alia in the New York Times, Le Monde, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, and the Guardian.
